Spring 2007. My good friend, Mark Fitzpatrick, an actor and talented script writer sat staring silently at me. Our lives had just changed.
I had just returned from overseas and we had met to discuss our love for storytelling, our admiration for the endless pools of talent in Australia and how we could live in paradise, work and play here, and still be active members of the global filmmaking community. At that table Mark advised me of the recent availability of his notorious script THE NOTHING MEN.
Having accumulated many wonderful contacts and friendships with creative artists over our respective years, the team that came together was a truly remarkable collection of talent with similar values, pursuits and interests. One a Scriptwriter, another an Actor, Production Designers, Musicians, all of whom became a collective of resourceful talent with a desire to be part of a progressive, ethical movement in the filmmaking arena.
Our first Feature Film 'TNM' is a testimonial to our teams spirit. We also pioneered the RED Digital Cinema Camera in the Southern Hemisphere, excitingly only the second Feature Film in the world to do so, next to Steven Soderberghs' CHE/THE ARGENTINE.
ALCHEMY Film Productions is also Australia's first Carbon Neutral Production house. Be it off-setting flights, recycled paper, combating disposable catering, or using make-up only from cruelty free listings.
Being a completely independent Australian Film company, as a collective we want to be able to affect the issues we care about. To make a difference. To set a benchmark for future film makers and to make us all think a bit more about this crazy, beautiful, wild place we all call home, and the footprint we leave upon it. |
