| WHEN BRUTALITY GOES TOO FAR....
GENRE: Drama
SYNOPSIS:
As a hardened crew of factory workers struggle to see out the last two weeks before their redundancy windfalls, panic runs through the ranks with the arrival of a mysterious man sent to join them.
Suddenly fearful that their drinking and gambling will be exposed by the head-office “spy” and rob them of their money, top dog Jack (Colin Friels) and the men descend into a compelling world of antagonism and brutality.
The intrigue and anxious second-guessing is only enhanced when the pacifist of the group, Wesley (Martin Dingle Wall), befriends the seemingly normal outsider, David (David Field).
When Wesley discovers David is hiding a much darker secret, however, the seeds are planted for an explosive finale that seals the fate of The Nothing Men.
INSPIRED BY:
‘For authorities to cover up such a heinous act of malevolence is ruthless in the extreme’.
Such was an excerpt directed at the inquiry that gripped the Australian public.
The injustice of these poor souls, forced to sit in a factory and wait! All their employer and the government would say is: ‘The six men inside had a choice, move state to continue their trade or be made redundant and wait out the six months until their severance payments were cleared’.
Six months that none of them were expected to endure.
But at breaking point insult to injury was added, with a phone call that would change the fates of those six waiting men.
After six long and arduous months, a call advised these nothing men that their pending money was intended to clear within the next fortnight. It also informed of the mass sackings within the six sister workshops statewide.
They were then advised of the new man set to join them and see out that last fortnight.
However, something went horribly wrong.
‘This man was placed in an environment he should not have’ some reporters had said. There is much speculation around the events that occurred in the last two weeks at Bermill St, Rockdale.
The one available witness’ testimonial has been rendered unreliable and the witness subsequently placed into a relocation program in a separate state. This is the official position of the Authorities.
There is a reason they didn't want you to hear it.
The new Australian feature film THE NOTHING MEN follows the account of that witness and how the events of those last two weeks unfolded.
EVENTS:
The RED Digital Cinema Camera team in Los Angeles viewed an early cut of THE NOTHING MEN in July. Overwhelmed by their response, RED Team Leader Ted Schilowitz contacted us immediately to extend an invitation to Hollywood to screen our Film.
On the evening of August the 6th RED played host to a screening of THE NOTHING MEN in the FRANK SINATRA HALL at USC (University of Southern California) filling the 250 seats with University Film Alumni, Industry Executives and Production personnel.
In the audience that evening was David Valdes, Producer of ‘Unforgiven’, ‘In the line of Fire’, ‘Green Mile’, ‘The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford’ and ‘The Book of ELI’. David approached us after the Q&A requesting a private screening for his company and associates. We promptly screened again at the RED offices in PLASTER CITY, a high end Post Production facility on Sunset Blvd. A lunch was arranged for the next day following that screening to hear about our next production.
